Until the shower
Across all five boroughs of New York City.
Joyful Beginnings was born from a simple but profound truth: none of us got here alone. In December 2025 we hosted our inaugural Citywide Baby Shower, rooted in the belief that every woman stepping into motherhood deserves a village. For many women that village simply does not exist. Joyful Beginnings exists to be it.
In our first year every mother who walked through those doors left with a full Blessing Bundle and a room full of people who were glad she came. This year we are opening the doors wider, to one hundred mothers across all five boroughs.

The first citywide shower filled a room in Brooklyn with mothers, volunteers and neighbors. Here is the day in their own words.
Meet the founder
Founder and Visionary, Joyful Beginnings New York
Octavia C. Figueroa founded Joyful Beginnings New York on a conviction she carries personally: no mother should have to prepare for a baby alone. A wife and the mother of two young children, a nine year old son and a three year old daughter, she knows how transformative, and at times overwhelming, the journey into motherhood can be. She navigated the newborn season surrounded by a loving village and real access to resources, and she cannot imagine having done it alone.
She also knows that for many women that village simply is not there. That is why she hosts this event, with one clear goal: to welcome women into a life changing chapter joyfully, intentionally, and with the assurance that they are not alone. What began as a desire to pour into a handful of expecting mothers has grown into a citywide celebration that draws churches, small businesses, volunteers and neighbors from every borough into one room.
Professionally she has spent more than a decade as a Product Manager in financial services, leading initiatives that demand vision, collaboration and precise execution, and she recently earned an Executive MBA from Columbia Business School. That discipline shows up in how she runs this. She leads it the way she started it, hands on: she takes the calls, packs the tables, greets the mothers at the door and remembers their names the following year.
Her hope for this year is to give mothers even more than last year. Not just essential items, but the confidence, encouragement and community they deserve. A baby shower is not just a party. It is a public declaration that a family is loved, that a child is wanted, and that a village is already standing by.
Every woman stepping into motherhood deserves a village. Joyful Beginnings exists to be that village.
Octavia C. FigueroaMother registration
Registration for the one hundred mother places is open now and handled on our registration form, where we collect the details we need to prepare for each mother. Places close when the room is full.
Monetary and in kind
Give one dollar or give a case of diapers. Both fill a table. Both reach a mother.
Our kickoff campaign for this year. Give one dollar, share it with three friends, and watch a village build itself.
Every dollar counts. Every share builds a village.
